This species occurs in Burma, Thailand ( Doi Suthep), Vietnam (near Dalat) and Yunnan Province in southwest China. It grows at an altitude of around 1100 - 1700m.
D. harveyanum is best grown mounted under intermediate conditions. It needs a cool, bright and dry winter rest to produce spring flowers.
The pseudobulbs are 15-20cm long and the flowers 5cm across.
The flowers have a nice scent of citrus and honey.
