D. loddigesii occurs in Laos, southern China and Hong Kong.

Plants are usually found at 1000-1500m but has been reported growing as low as 400m.

This species is best grown mounted under intermediate conditions.

Heavy watering and fertilizing during the growing period and a cool dry bright rest during the winter is needed to produce spring flowers. The cooler the temperatures, the less water.
