M. sprucei is from the lowland forests of  Venezuela and Brazil where it grows at altitudes of 100-800m.

This is one of few true warm growing Masdevallias. It's a small plant, the leaves are only 5-6cm (2") long and the flowers are about 2cm wide (3/4").

It grows well in warm - intermediate conditions if provided
high humidity and excellent air movement.
